LYLA's Mentor Program

Mentoring helps youth in different areas:

  • Elevate self-confidence
  • Develop awareness of social and emotional behaviors
  • Identify goals and develop plans of action

Our LYLA mentors are dedicated to inspiring, developing and empowering our next generation of young Latino/a leaders.

The LYLA Mentor Program is a school year program that runs from Sept-May and is a mentee-driven offering. Our program encourages mentees to establish accountability for themselves and provides support to each participant to begin to take leadership steps toward forming and managing a lasting mentoring relationship tailored to their needs.

Mentor Criteria

  • A mentor should be of Latino descent.

  • A mentor should be committed to serving Latino youth.

  • A mentor should be willing to give the mentee undivided attention during a meeting. Be genuinely interested in your mentee as an individual. Learn about the mentee’s hopes and dreams to feel connected with them.
  • A mentor should be a positive role model and be genuine. Leverage your own experiences and thinking to provide the best answers for the mentee.
